Farewell, JACNY (updated).
I'm so sorry to tell everyone that after a long, fiercely fought battle, long-time blog buddy Janet (better known around here as 'JACNY') passed away this morning.
She was always so positive, kind and supportive of everyone. I will remember her distinctive voice and her love of the New York Yankees.
Many fellow blog buddies were in touch with Janet up until the end. I'm so grateful that our community has created such bonds. Let's keep it going, peeps, for Janet.
Love,
Ross
UPDATE: In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that you make a donation in Janet's name. HERE is the info.

Very sad news. I bonded with Janet in the early days of chat when we did the two-way feature and talked our way through a US Open tennis match. It was the start of a friendship that I valued very much. Your long ordeal is over, Janet, and I'm going to miss you greatly. Fare thee well.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely tribute, Ross. Many of us kept chatting right up to the end and Janet became a part of my real life family (she loved my grandson to pieces). We have you to thank for bringing us all together and as often as you have been mistaken for a woman on the phone, Janet was just as often mistaken for a man. She really did have a distinctive voice. May she rest in peace and comfort and meet up with her beloved Josie at the Rainbow Bridge
ReplyDeleteI REALLY DID THINK SHE WAS YOUR SISTER. I SHOULD BE SO LOVED. HUGS GRANNY TG
DeleteSuch a sad day, but I'm grateful for the time we had with her and her amazing spirit. Her laugh was hilarious and infectious. We continued to chat almost daily. She kept my son clothed in Yankee splendor over the years. Too many great memories to even begin to mention! Thank you, Ross for "introducing" us to so many life-long friends. RIP JACNY!
ReplyDeleteThank You Ross for introducing all of us. Janet will be greatly missed. I made so many friends from your blog. I always thought of JACNY as sort of the leader of our rag tag group. I spent last night with Glynis, Berry and their beautiful kids. Janet will be greatly missed by us all.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry to hear of Janet's passing. We can all take comfort that she is at peace and no longer in any pain. Thank you for sharing this news with us Ross - it shows that you don't just have a website for fans, but you truly care about each and every one of them.
ReplyDeleteThoughts and prayers to Janet's family and friends during this difficult time.

This is a lovely tribute, Ross. I met JAC in chat. She had such a gruff voice that belied her true loving nature. Janet had such a big heart and a big laugh that I will truly miss. I'm glad I made so many good friends in RossChat, and am so blessed that JAC was one of them. RIP Janet.
ReplyDeleteI will never forget when butter and I flew to New York to get
ReplyDeleteOn the Rosie cruise and we weren't sure if Janet was going to be
Able to meet up with us. She did and we spent an afternoon and evening
Eating great NY deli sandwiches and chatting, just like we did every night
And continued to do right up till the night before. She went into the hospital. Had
It not been for you Ross, we wouldn't have met and I would have the friends I have now. Thank you for that. I will miss Janet
Terribly, there will be an empty space at the table. It's going to be strange
Going forward but we will. And we will carry her memory with us.
Godspeed Janet, I am happy you are no longer in pain and your souls
Is free. Say hi to everyone for me! Peace...

~JACNY welcomed me as a newbie Blog Buddy
ReplyDeleteover 7 years ago.
when we were encouraged to get to know each other better,
she helped me start my Myspace(!) page.
she felt like the matriarch of our little family
even when she wasn't commenting on the Ross Blog...
SO sad she is gone.
she WILL be missed.
{{{hugs everyone}}}

Such a nice post, Ross.
ReplyDeleteJanet was an awesome woman who was part of a group of friends that helped me through many good and bad moments of my life. She was always there with advice (some good, some funny, some odd) and a cyber hug. I almost always knew where to find her if I needed her.
Janet will be missed by a whole bunch of people but it brings me peace to know she is up there playing with Josie and discussing spring training with George Stienbrenner, Babe Ruth and Mickey Mantle.

Ross and Blog Buddies:
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry to read the passing of JACNY. I did not participate in the chats, I arrived later but when JACNY did post she was always so positive with her comments. I felt close to her since I live in New York and the Yankees are my favorite team as well. My condolences to her "blog buddy friends" that created a close friendship with her. As I posted on a earlier post of Ross', this blog has created humor with many people, it has created such compassion when someone is in need of a shoulder and the fast made friendships are beyond words of expression. Strangers coming together and sharing when Ross started this Blog so he could keep his Mom informed on his new adventures has turned into a "home base" of continuous friendship. Ross...JACNY is jumping for joy right now for she feels the love from her favorite Ross Mathews and her Blog Buddies.... Love surrounds her today and always. May she Rest In Peace....

One of the ORIGINALS has left us... JAC, even though we never met, we were like a family - a little dysfunctional, but loving and supportive. We battled TROLLS, and Amish internet problems. We argued over trivia questions at the Ross-A-Rama,got addicted to Afri-crack-cam, celebrated New Year's in 4 different times zones and had coffee at your Riff Raff kitchen table,. Thanks to Ross for introducing me to the world wide web, chat rooms, blogs and YOU. As the years passed, we drifted our separate directions, but the memories will never fade. It's time for you to collect those slobbery Josie kisses at the Rainbow Bridge. You have fought the GOOD fight and run the race. Now, "Go rest HIGH upon that mountain, for your work on earth is done. Go to Heaven a SHOUTING..." LOVE, Marr in Ohio
ReplyDeleteI've been in a long, self imposed seclusion from these parts, but I started seeing references to JAC's passing on Facebook, and like a beacon, I was drawn here. What you saw was what you got with JAC...and I too remember those early days, and Afri-crack....and she loved her Yankees! I love Annie's image of her talking Yankees with Steinbrenner, the Babe, and Mickey Mantle, with Josie by her side. Godspeed, JAC! You will be missed! Trish in Indiana
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely and kind tribute Ross. xo
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry to hear of Janet's passing.
Hey JAC. Here's to Derek Jeter, German Shepards,

Rest in Peace.

I have fond memories of Janet. She always had a kind word for me. I can't believe it has been about 8 years since I've posted on this blog. She was definitely one of the greats, and she will be missed. Thanks for tribute, Ross.
ReplyDeleteJeff W, Atlanta
Ross, I'm sure your tribute means a lot to JACNY and I'm sure she's reading it and smiling from above! I came onboard post-chat days, but Janet was very kind to me here and friended me on FB as well. I was unaware of her recent illness and was so sorry to see this news today. May she RIP.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear of Janet's passing. My prayers and thoughts are with her family.
ReplyDeleteRIP, JACNY. Ross, you gave her one of the greatest memories when you made it possible for Janet to meet Rosie. Through Janet, we ALL met Rosie and experience the fun through her. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteGlynis, it's a moment I'll never forget as you know! I was thankful to be able to buy Janet a ticket to the show & Ross made it even more memorable! I hope we all have a Blog Buddy meet-up one day! Maybe on Ross' new show:):)
DeleteWhat lovely words here today for JACNY. I did not participate in the chats, but do remember Janet's comments on this blog, and I am sorry to hear that she has passed away. Rests in Peace, Janet. You left the world a better place.

RIP JACNY. Met in chat many moons ago - when we were first fooling around with microphones and cameras. Too funny. She introduced me to Post Secret and I still love it to this day. Oh, Afri-crack...great memories. Will miss you.

Saddened by the new of JACNY :( I think katykk described her perfectly as the matriarch to the Blog Buddy family, such a fitting description.
ReplyDeleteMy condolences to her dear friends and family that were with her throughout her struggles. May her memories comfort you always.
I, too, always felt like Janet was the Guardian of the RossBlog- sniffing out trolls and always greeting the Newbies. Those were fun days on the blog and in chat. Janet was always "on duty" and good for a laugh and a good time. I will miss her a lot!
ReplyDeleteFarewell Janet, and farewell to my mom, too, who also went to Heaven today. Both of them were much loved and admired. Bye bye mama...

ReplyDeleteProfessing their deepest sympathies, I'd like to know how many actually so-called bestie blog buddies actually donated to JACNY's fund. Bet not many.
ReplyDeleteWow!! What a piece of crap to write something like this when the "FAMILY" of Janet (JACNY) read those sentiments that people wrote.
DeleteYou mean if you donate to a special fund it makes you the true friend to Janet.
GO BACK INTO YOUR HOLE!!!!!

Very sweet of you to take the time of posting this....it will mean the world to her brother.
Take care...
Ross - just listening to the links above. Did you ever actually take the trip to South Africa that you won?
ReplyDeleteWendy
